Datsun Cars are distributed by Pioneer MotoCorp Pvt. Ltd. in Nepal. The Datsun brand is owned by a japanese automobile company, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, usually known as Nissan. Datson was founded in 1931, but the brand was phased out by Nissan in 1986. The Nissan company that manufactured a small car named after the previous name of the brand “Dat”, introduced it as “son of Dat”, and named it “Datson” but later they changed it into “Datsun” where sun also symbolises the national flag of Japan. Datsun name was only used for exported cars until 1986.
After its phase out in 1986, Datsun brand was relaunched with Datsun cars in 2013 as a low cost car brand focused mainly on budget customers. On 20 March 2012, Nissan announced that they would revive the Datsun marque as a low-cost car brand for use in India, Russia, Indonesia, Nepal and South Africa. And in 2014, datsun Go was launched in India as well as in Nepal also. However, Nissan has stopped manufacturing Datsun Cars from 2020 in Indonesia due to low demand although Nissan Cars will still be available in Indonesian markets.
Previously, the parent company of Datsun Cars, Nissan cars, were being distributed by Dugar Group in Nepal but now both are distributed by Pioneer MotoCorp Pvt. Ltd. in Nepal. Datsun Cars are manufactured in Renault-Nissan manufacturing plant in Chennai for South Asian countries. The Datsun brand is also a part of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance along with 6 other major automobile brands which makes a total of 10 brands in the alliance.
